Helping Your Dog Feel at Home
Posted on July 19, 2010
If you’re planning to move to a new home you may have accounted for your entire family’s comfort and pet peeves. Once your arrangements with your premier Greensboro moving companies are complete and your kids are settled in, it may be time to start thinking about the rest of the family, the dog. Dogs much like people need time to adjust to new environments too.
According to the National Humane Society it can take anywhere from two days to two months for your dog to get adjusted to a new home. The first thing to do is prepare supplies that your dog will need to help them feel more at home such as chew toys, dog pillows and a leash. The last thing you want to do is go searching for a dog in an unfamiliar neighborhood. You should try to register your dog as soon as possible because in the event that something happens to your dog you will be notified immediately.
The next thing that you should do assign tasks for family members do to help your family and your dog get adjusted to their new environment. Assign everyone something different to allow your dog to get readjusted to every member of your family on a one-on-one basis. You may have to housetrain your dog again until it gets used to the new environment and the possibility of a change in schedule.
Depending on the age of your dog you may have to get them spayed or neutered. According to Greensboro law, animals of a certain age have to be spayed or neutered and a record of this will be included on your pet license when you register your pet. Once your dog has settled into their new routine it will be safe to introduce him to your friends and neighbors without having to worry about any misconduct.
