Mining for Greensboro

I am a professional driver with American Van Lines Greensboro local moving companies, so I get the opportunity to see many of our state’s wonders. Last week while returning from a moving job in the Greensboro area, I stopped at a local convenience store for a cold drink and over heard a couple of guys talking about gold mines in North Carolina. This naturally came as a surprise to me because I had no idea North Carolina had any history of mining and that it was still practiced today.

These guys were talking about moving to Greensboro to mine full time and wanted to know about our North Carolina relocation services. After informing them of our local moving services in Greensboro they went on to mention that there were several mining sites in the area. Some sites are even open to the public complete with gift shops and food courts. I learned that there are organizations that specialize in mining the Greensboro area such as the Piedmont Mineral Club. This organization was founded in the late 1950’s in response to a growing interest in uranium and gold prospects.

As the conversation went on I could not help but think to myself “there may still be gold in those hills”. One of the guys who were determined to move to Greensboro said he would be in need of our services but was doubtful about our ability to handle his mining equipment. He went on to say that even if we could carry all of his equipment a moving company would be too expensive for him. He had no idea he was talking to the driver of one of the most affordable Greensboro moving companies in the business. After handing him a business card it was time to head back to work. We parted ways but I still wonder if those guys ever found gold in Greensboro, North Carolina’s hills.
