Moving to a Larger Office? Fill Space With These Tips
Posted on September 18, 2012
Corporate moving to a larger office can seem fun and exciting at first. Yet many find when they move into a larger space that they do not have enough to fill the area. Here are few and simple ideas to spruce up your new office.
The first place to start should always be the walls. Are you allowed to paint the walls? If so, cover those stark white walls! Many offices now have walls painted in soothing colors such as deep yellow or light blue. Productivity and comfort is increased among workers and customers when walls are soothing. It’s best to paint your walls well before you move your office furnishings in. Also consider artwork to hang on your wall. You should have it reflect the type of office you work in. Management should consider inspirational paintings while sales could consider scenic landscapes. Consider also having shelving installed before you move in.
Furniture is the next thing to consider when planning for a larger office. Think about your current workspace. Could you benefit from a bigger desk? Do you need a separate table for work space? Do you hold a lot of meetings and could use a table for everyone to gather around? Couches and comfortable chairs are beneficial if you host clients often in your office.
Decorations can help to fill in large spaces and help to break up the room. Throw rugs will not only add interest in your office, they can also make the office feel welcoming. Does your new office have windows? Don’t settle for the eyesore of cheap white mini-blinds. Use curtains, window valance or wooden shutters to treat your windows. Consider small potted trees or plants. Not only are they pleasing to look at, they also provide fresh oxygen to your office. While a few framed photos of family or friends on your desk is appropriate, refrain from overuse of personal decorations. It can make the office look more like your personal bedroom which is not professional.
Don’t be afraid to use what you already have in your current office. Look around your current office and think of how you could rearrange it in your future office. Sometimes in smaller offices we can tend to push and clutter things together. You may find that by spacing it out in your new office, it may have a whole new look.
