Moving Your Office Without Breaking the Bank

Relocating your business to a new location is a pretty hefty job in and of itself. If you’re looking to move your office, this becomes even more difficult. Between the costs of hiring movers, the difficulty in getting your services moved to your new location, and several other issues that always seem to appear at the worst times, it can be an enormous headache and a huge money pit. Luckily, there are a few tips that can help you with relocating to a new office if you’re on a tight budget. Of course, in saving yourself some money, you’ll have to put in a bit more effort, but sometimes you don’t have much of a choice
The biggest tip you can keep in mind is also the simplest, move your own stuff. Now, this is less feasible if you have sensitive equipment that needs to be moved by a professional, but for the majority of your furniture, computers, etc. this is a viable plan. If you, or one of your employees who’s willing to help, owns a large enough truck, that can turn the entire process into an extremely inexpensive operation. After all, at that point your move costs no more than the price of gas, and perhaps an incentive for your fellow employees to help. If nobody who works for or with you has a truck, however, there’s still no need to worry. A self move truck is a fairly inexpensive way to load and deliver your office furniture, especially if you’re not trying to move it overly far. They also come with dollies and straps to help you get things into the truck and secured easily, so you may want to consider one of these even if you have a truck available.
Another tip you may want to keep in mind, in case you’re not physically strong enough to do the moving yourself, is that there are several websites you can use to find cheap help. Assuming you have a relatively small office, maybe three rooms, you can offer twenty dollars or so to people who are willing to help you move. This can also be a great way to find someone with a truck, if you don’t have one yourself. It may seem odd, but don’t be fooled, hiring someone this way is far cheaper than hiring a full moving team. Again, this only really works if you don’t have anything extremely fragile or sensitive to move.
These two tips are fairly simple, and are easy to follow. Though they might seem like common sense, a lot of people forget about this quite obvious solution when it comes time to actually move. It’s understandable, the huge amount of frustration that comes with a move can quickly make people forget about the cheap way out as opposed to the easy one. In the end, however, if you want to save money on a move, just remembering to do it yourself can easily save you upwards of $500-$1000 dollars, if not much more.
