International Movers

Any shipment which leaves the country is an international move. Shipments to Hawaii and Alaska are sometimes referred to as international moves because they require specific shipping. International shipment have very specific rules and requirements which must be followed. Most destination countries required detailed documentation of your passport, visa, domical information and  itemized inventories with serial numbers of your shipment.  Paperwork should be completed well in advance of the move to prevent delays and additional holding charges. Your moving representative can provide you with a list of requirements.

COST

International shipments are charged by weight or the space they take up which ever is more, in other words it may cost just as much to shi a wicker chair as it would to ship a dresser. Although the wicker chair is lighter, it takes up the roughly the same space as a dresser. Along with the shipping cost, your mover will charge to prepare and pack your shipment into the shipping container.

PACKING

Some items are restricted and should not be packed. Food and plants can not be shipped. Number your boxes and make a detail inventory of everything you have packed. Do not pack your moving documents or personal papers.

SHIPPING METHODS

Small shipments may be placed in large cardboard boxes, skidded and banded, larger shipment will go into "lift vans" (large wooden boxes) or "containers" large metal boxes. Your furniture will be wrapped in paper pads and cardboard to prevent damage. Containerized shipments are usually loaded directed from your home into the container. Smaller shipments may be brought to  the movers warehouse to be prepared for shipping.  The shipment will travel by truck to the port where it will await the next shipping vessel to your destination. Most shipments require four to six weeks travel time.

INSURANCE

Insurance offered by the shipping company should be purchased to cover your shipment in the event of loss or damage. Obtain a copy of the insurance certificate for your files. (Do not pack it)
