Why is the town in Texas called The Colony?
The Peter’s Colony grant was one of the first land contracts authorized by the Republic of Texas to promote settlement in the area. The 1841 contract provided 640 acres of free land to the immigrant group in exchange for building cabins, cultivating 15 acres of the land, and pledging allegiance to the new republic. In return for the pledge, the Peter’s Colony received one million acres of premium lands in the western portion of north Texas.
Lewinsville Lake was established in 1927, then expanded in the 1940s and 1950s. Developers purchased 3,000 acres near the lake in 1973 to build residences. The new town, which had been annexed by nearby Frisco, was established in 1977. Residents voted to name the town The Colony in tribute to the region’s recent history.
Is it better to live in Dallas or Fort Worth?
Your choice between living in Dallas or Fort Worth depends on many factors, such as cost of living, job opportunities, and lifestyle preferences. Dallas is the city, and Fort Worth is the country. Dallas rush-hour traffic is a lot tougher to negotiate than in Fort Worth. Both towns cover roughly the same amount of ground, but Dallas has about twice as many people as Fort Worth. And don’t forget that Dallas has a fully functional rapid-transit system while Fort Worth struggles with a patchwork of commuter railroads.
As far as your line of work goes, Dallas is home to numerous transportation companies, construction firms, and security operations. Fort Worth is noteworthy for aviation jobs, gas industry roles, and manufacturing positions. Fort Worth is slightly more affordable than Dallas, which makes Fort Worth an attractive option for homeowners on a budget.

How much money do you need to move to your first apartment?
Plan on saving up at least three to four months’ rent before you move into your first apartment. You should be prepared to pay the first and last month’s rent for the new apartment, as well as a security deposit. If your budget does not allow you to live alone due to the cost, you may need to find a roommate or two.
Hiring movers is another issue because it creates an added cost. Even if you are moving on your own, you have to purchase packing supplies and rent a truck that is big enough to transport your belongings to the next place. Make a list of all the costs you expect to encounter during your move to help you figure out how much it will cost in total.

How do I organize my house move?
March into an organized house move by decluttering to eliminate unnecessary items. There’s no reason to move items you wish to dispose of. Stage a yard sale, or drop off your unwanted but still useful goods at a donation center. Make sure you create a pile to throw away so you don’t pay to move things that are headed for the trash.
Create a moving binder full of important documents and checklists to help you relocate to your new home. Include a packing schedule, a checklist of items that need attention, and a place to write notes to yourself about your move. Clean each room so the home is tidy before you leave. When it comes to selecting a place to live, download an app such as Realtor.com or Nextdoor.com and begin your search.
