10 Beatles Songs About Moving

It’s interesting— the Beatles wrote a lot of songs about moving.

And many of them seem to be about American Van Lines.

Here are 10 of our favorites:

1. All My Loving: Not many people know this, but “All My Loving” was originally titled “All My Lugging,” a clear moving reference. The Beatles changed “lugging” to “loving” to make the song more commercial. We’re perfectly OK with this, because here at American Van Lines, we consider lugging to be a form of customer love. In fact, they’re synonymous.
2. From Me To You: No doubt about this one:  If there’s anything that you want (moved)
   If there’s anything I can do
   Just call on me and I’ll send it along
   With love, from me to you  That’s exactly the song we’re always singing here at American Van Lines. It’s true you don’t actually hear the word “moved” in the recording. It’s silent.
3. A Hard Day’s Night: The song mentions “working like a dog,” but that’s strictly metaphorical. All American Van Lines movers work hard, but they perform the work on two legs. We don’t have any four-legged movers, at least not that we know of.  The line “When I get home to you, I find the things that you do, will make me feel alright” is clearly a reference to a customer arriving at their new home, and finding American Van Lines movers unloading their belongings and carrying them in with the greatest possible care.
4. I’ll Follow The Sun: A song about a mover traveling from east to west. American Van Lines movers sing this song even when it’s raining. Something to do with our sunny dispositions. That would be my guess.
5. I Should Have Known Better: John Lennon got the idea for this song when Ringo told him: “I had to move me drums from Liverpool to London. Decided to do it meself and broke me tom-tom. I should have known better and called American Van Lines.”  Smart bloke, Ringo.
6. Day Tripper: Clearly a song about someone who’s only moving a short distance. We’re not entirely happy with the choice of words here— movers don’t like the word “trip.”
7. Don’t Let Me Down: Many people start singing this song after they sign a contract with a mover. That’s not something you have to worry about with American Van Lines. We’re all about “Satisfaction.” Oops— wrong group.
8. Carry That Weight: Quite possibly the movers’ theme song. We don’t personally carry every single item, of course. Every employee here at American Van Lines has a firm grasp of physics and mechanical engineering, and that means using dollies, ramps, and pallet jacks. Brawn and brains, that’s our motto.
9. Penny Lane: Penny Lane falls into the “Moving” category because of the trumpet solo. When that American Van Lines van pulls up to your new home, you’re sure to hear a blast of trumpets signaling a glorious and triumphant conclusion to your move. We always hear them, anyway.
10. Hello, Goodbye: Time flies when you’re having fun, and that’s always true here at American Van Lines. We show up, we say hello, we load up your stuff, and the next thing you know you’re all moved in and we’re bidding you a fond farewell. Happiness all around.
