On average, residences in Pompano Beach are significantly cheaper than houses in nearby Fort Lauderdale. According to real estate brokers Redfin, Pompano Beach homes sold for an average of 28% less than Fort Lauderdale houses in mid-2024. The median sales price of a Pompano Beach residence was around $390,000 then, while the median value of a Fort Lauderdale home was nearly $540,000.

The two towns are so close to each other that there’s little difference in the cost of living besides property taxes. However, Fort Lauderdale residents earn higher average incomes than Pompano Beach inhabitants. Per capita income in Fort Lauderdale was almost 40% above the average in Pompano Beach in 2022, according to the US Census Bureau. The average Fort Lauderdale household income ($82,000) was about a third higher than the Pompano Beach average ($61,000).

What to do in Pompano Beach, FL?

Pompano Beach operates an outdoor aquatics facility, a public golf course, and a state-of-the-art music amphitheater. The main road from I-95, Atlantic Boulevard, recently underwent renovation. As a result, business is booming. The city is poised to allow a spate of new construction near the beach that includes high-rises with more than 20 stories. The Pompano Beach Club Tower on the beach, which has 29 stories, has been the tallest building in town since 1975.
